I’m in love

This week I became a grandmother.

As excited as I was, I was unprepared for the emotion I felt when first seeing this daughter of ours skin to skin with her newly born baby. His body curved, knees to belly, as if to still fit his protective womb of nine months. I bawled in joy and gratefulness and love. Yes, our life has changed. And I honor this daughter of ours, her strength and resilience and passion and beauty. I honor this child’s father: his compassion, support and grace. We are grateful to support this grandbaby and his parents as they begin this journey as a new family.

No, you won’t see me sharing those gorgeous images of this new family member for all the world to see. Simply trust me. He is beautiful. A new spirit who joins us in this life we are fortunate to be part of. This eighth generation Oregonian. Poppy, we called him, before he had his given name: pet name originating when he was the size of a poppy seed. All those weeks and months of trusting, not yet knowing for sure, that all would be well. Yes, all is well. Welcome to the family little guy. I am here to listen. To support. To be there for your parents. And to spoil you rotten.

Whew.

And as to other less top-of-the-mind-in-the-moment but still exciting updates! I hope to see you at these upcoming book events!
